PSYCHOL. Observation psychologique d'après les manifestations extérieures objectives du comportement. Anton. introspection. L'opposition de deux attitudes qui toutes les deux peuvent recourir à l'intro-spection ou à l'extro-spection, mais dans des mentalités différentes (RICŒUR, Philos. volonté, 1949, p. 13).
Rem. On trouve aussi ds la docum., dér. du subst., extrospectif, ive, adj. Qui appartient à l'extrospection. Les actes extrospectifs (J. VUILLEMIN, Essai signif. mort, 1949, p. 162).

♦ Psychol. Observation psychologique objective, extérieure (d'après l'expression, le comportement, les œuvres, etc.). — S'oppose à introspection (plus cour.).
0 L'observation extérieure ou extrospection considère le fait psychique non plus du dedans mais du dehors, comme une chose. Elle a appris à faire usage de la mesure et s'est efforcée de devenir quantitative. Depuis Cattell on donne le nom de test mental à toute expérience psychologique destinée à permettre une application numérique de la mesure d'un processus, ce qui requiert un étalonnage préalable.
